Is Blogging Going the Way of the Newspaper?

Posted on October 8, 2009 18:07 by LeviRosol

Is twitter and the like really killing blogging? Not that I was all that active of a blogger, but as you can tell by the gaps between this and my last post, and the post before that, I find it hard to justify the time needed to compose, edit, link, insert image, to build a blog post.

Then look at my small blog roll. Of the people listed there, all of whom I respect and who are active developers in the community, only one person has posted to their blog in the last 6 months.

The really odd thing is, I read way more blogs now than I did back my blog posting hay days. You can primarily thank Google Reader for that. Ultimately it seems that unless a person can command a moderately large and active user base on their blog, their blog tends to fall out of favor as a way to communicate.

So, what does this mean for my blog? Honestly, I have no clue. 2008 was a very interesting year, and 2009 has been even more so. I've developed new hobbies, changed jobs, and have my hands in a bunch of different things. Would I like to blog more often? Would I like to build my brand? Will I stop making excuses for why I don't have the time?

 Yes, yes and meh... Undecided
