Tracbacks and Blog Traffic

Posted on June 26, 2005 01:13 by LeviRosol

For the last couple weeks I have been wondering how Trackbacks within .Text work. For the longest time I have only had 4 or 5 trackbacks to my blog. I found something within the admin screens where I can apparently create trackbacks to other places when someone links to my blog. However, each time I try to create one, I get an error msg. Since it's not a huge concern of mine, I left it alone.

Then tonight I had an idea for a blog post, so I came out here to get one ready. When I did, I noticed that my trackbacks were now at 39. Does anyone have any ideas what may have caused this? One additional note that may be related is that the number of unique visitors to my site has doubled for thid month compared to all previous months. At first I was excited about this, assume that meant more people were reading my blog, hopefully getting some value from it. Then I looked at my referral links and found that I've got a fair number of referrals coming from various pharmaceutical, porn, etc sites. I'm not sure why this is, but I assume it is yet another way SEO's are trying to drive up their google rankings. Seems to me that the only way this would work is if my stats page was indexed by google. Thus far, I have not found this to be the case.

Thoughts?
