The day AFTER I installed Subversion[^] 1.1.4!!
Oh well. It appears the upgrade path for 1.2 is a simple “install the newest libraries and binaries on top of the older ones”. If not, no big deal since no source code has been added to my server yet.
I was reading through the change log, and found something very interesting. File Locking[^] is now supported in SVN[^]!! This means all of those teams that stick with VSS because of the locking functionality now have absolutely no reason to stick with VSS! I have to be honest though. I work in a team like that. It grows on you. Going back to a copy-modify-merge system would be a challenge to say the least. I think it could almost be compared to telling a VB developer to turn Option Strict ON by default. It's something you know you should do, but... but... I don't wannnaa!!!
All kidding aside, I think it's great that SVN[^] now supports File Locking[^]. It's yet another feather in the hat for the SVN[^] team. Over the years they have all worked very hard to build a robust, efficient, and modern source control application, and have succeeded quite well.
I do wonder how this is going to impact my installation of Trac[^]. I also did not see any mention of 1.2 supporting the Python 2.4[^] Subversion bindings.
