After last nights failure, I did some thinking while zoning off to sleep. Why not give Virtual Server[^] a try? The box I am using is a test box anyways, so another piece of trial software can't hurt, and it will probably help in the goal of getting Team Foundation Server up and running.
So I downloaded the msi before I left for work, and installed it tonight after i took a much needed nap. I have to say, the documentation included with Virtual Server[^] is outstanding! Step by step guides on the prerequisites, getting the OS installed, adding the plugins. Considering this is a Microsoft product, the documentation was much better than I had planned for.
Oh, and to make the evening even better, I was able to get the virtual server added to Active Directory with minor issues. I'm sure for many of you, this seems like a simple task. Keep in mind though, that last night was my first ever try at installing Active Directory, and tonight was my first ever attempt at adding a new server to the tree (I think that's the right word).
Right now I'm running windows update and getting some basic virus protection on the virtual server. Once that's done, I should have time to get SQL Server 2005 Beta 2[^] installed yet tonight, and will then be able to give Team Foundations Server[^] a try again tomorrow. I will be in New Jersey for the remainder of the week visiting a client, so it looks like the weekend will be the soonest I have any real amount of time to play with Team Foundations Server[^]. That's assuming the install goes well tomorrow.
